I got Eden a week ago and she appeared healthy the first 5 or 6 days... then, her health plummets. Her head tilted in the most ungodly position, she rubbed her eye raw on the bottom or her cage, she stopped eating/drinking, and she was a pitiful sight. I bought baby food and child's motrin to give her. She loved the mushed up peas and the motrin appeared to give her some form of comfort. I worked the day she got ill so I had to wait until the following day to bring her to the vet. By the time I got there she began having trouble breathing. At that point I burst into tears as I left her at the vet. I knew they'd call and ask to put her down. Ten minutes later, they did. They said she was suffering far too much. I slept with her the night before she died and she had a great home with me for a week. I can't save all ratties... but I can be in peace knowing she died with me rather then the horrid pet store owners who would've let her suffer to death.
You made her as happy as you could though, which as you say most pet stores wouldn't, so at least she was in comfort
Beautiful picture too xx
I'm very sorry for your loss, the worst thing is rats are so affectionate they get bonded to their owner very fast and it's very painful to lose them even if they've only been there for some days
RIP little Eden
